A Legacy Preserved in Lahore
Fakir Khana stands among Pakistan’s largest and most significant private museums. Open since 1901, it represents an exceptional continuity of family stewardship in Lahore’s Walled City.
The property has long been associated with Raja Todar Mal, finance minister of the Mughal emperor Akbar, and over the centuries was adapted as a family mansion, reflecting the evolving grace and traditions of Lahore.

From Family Collection
to Public Museum
The Fakir family has been part of Lahore’s life since the eighteenth century. Generations collected manuscripts, paintings, diplomatic gifts, textiles, and personal objects that reflect the city’s diverse cultural landscape.
In 1901, the family opened the house and its collection to the public, establishing one of South Asia’s earliest examples of a private museum serving the community.
